Water is life and we often take it for granted. Everyday, we lose water through normal bodily functions such as sweating and breathing.
In order for your body to function properly, it is important to replenish these fluids and drink water. “The Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) of total beverages a day,” states Mayo Clinic, “the AI for women is 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of total beverages a day.”
Here are the amazing health benefits of drinking water
Brain health:
Our brains need an adequate amount of oxygen to function properly. Drinking clean and filtered water can help provide that oxygen. Staying hydrated can boost brain function and alertness, and being dehydrated can significantly hamper mental function.
Flushes out toxins:
Drinking water helps flush out harmful toxins from our vital organs. Keeping toxins out of the body can possibly reduce the risk of serious disease including cancer.
Tip: Drink a glass of filtered warm water with lemon in the morning before breakfast to flush out toxins.
Headaches and migraines:
Dehydration is one of the main causes of headaches and migraines. Drinking the recommended daily amount of water helps stay hydrated. It also helps relieve headaches and migraines. In a study published by the journal Headache, participants reported an increase in migraines when they were dehydrated.
Heart health:
Water may be great for the heart. A long-term study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drank more than five glasses of water per day had a 41 percent less risk of dying from coronary heart disease than those who drank two glasses or less.
Metabolism booster:
Water has been proven to speed up metabolism and help with weight loss. In a study published by the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, those who drank about 17 ounces of water had 30 percent increase in metabolism rate. Water works as an appetite suppressant and aids with digestion.
Skin health:
Beauty comes from within. Water hydrates our organs, including our skin, which is the biggest organ. A hydrated skin is important as it will look healthy, supple, and beautiful. Take a step towards healthy living and drink away! Your glowing skin and healthy body will thank you.
Please make sure you drink filtered water and avoid bottled water if you can. You will prevent waste and take a healthy step at the same time.
It is very important to consume an adequate amount of water each day. It is a bit more of a challenge to get the daily dose in the colder months, but I find that water goes down easier with a little lemon and even a teaspoon of honey now and again.
