Responsible Drinking Guide

I enjoy an occasional drink, and I often invite friends to my home to celebrate holidays and special events. How can I make sure I’m drinking and hosting parties responsibly?

Following are suggestions to help each person be a responsible drinker and host

  • Drink slowly; never consume more than one drink per hour.
  • Eat while drinking, but do not eat salty food.
  • When mixing drinks, measure the amount of alcohol; never just pour.
  • Serve and choose nonalcoholic drinks as an alternative.
  • As a host, always serve the guests or hire a bartender. Do not have an open bar or serve someone who is intoxicated.
  • Stop using or serving alcohol one hour before a party is over.
  • Don’t drink and drive. Have a nondrinker drive or call a cab.
