Exercise instructions to strengthen pelvic floor muscles

This exercise can be carried out when a person is sitting, standing or lying down:

➥Tighten muscles around buttocks as if to prevent bowels opening.
➥Tighten muscles around bladder as if preventing the passage of urine.
➥Try to tighten these muscles and hold them for 10 seconds, then relax.
➥Do this exercise at regular intervals throughout the day.
➥When passing urine, stop and restart a couple of times.
